What exactly are Samples and Remixes?

The term sample refers to one part of an audio recording of any length. This can mean a segment of a song but also individual sounds or noises.

A remix is a new or altered version of a pre-existing song. The song is newly arranged with parts added, removed or altered. Remixes are most common in the genres of hip-hop, R&B and electronic music. For example, you often come across a "radio version", a "disco version" or an "extended version" of the same song.

The Converse library is a remix database in which 12,000 samples, loops and recording stems are available to download for free. In this database, the footwear brand Converse is making available music files which have been recorded in the brand’s own sound studio. The samples are sorted between 37 sessions by musicians and are also divided up according to type, genre and other criteria.
