Find Answers and Solutions of the most asked Questions regarding Ustream™
Ustream™ is one of the largest live interactive broadcasting platforms allowing anyone with an internet connection to start broadcasting and share their video streams with friends, family and even fans. Ustream™ broadcasts range from major political events to concerts or conferences, movie premieres, sporting events and interactive games. We were frequently asked for help regarding both our software and Ustream™ so please find solutions and answers to the most common issues by taking a look at the following FAQ:
How do I broadcast on Ustream™?
Ustream™ offers several ways of broadcasting. First, you can use the browser-based Web Browcaster which uses Adobe’s Flash Player. For a higher quality, use the free Ustream™ Producer, Adobe’s Flash Media Live encoder or Ustream™ Procer Pro ($199). Broadcasting from a mobile device is also possible, but the quality and speed will generally be slower, as a wired connection is much more stable. For best results it is recommended to use a wired Ethernet connection.

How to broadcast an audio only stream
To only broadcast an audio stream only, the first thing you need to do is to uncheck the “video broadcast” box in the Ustream broadcast console. The best way is to use an audio line-out to connect your computer’s audio input. You will need to have these connected before you open your broadcast console. You can also use free programs, such as Soundflower for Mac OS to route audio signal internally from one app to another. If you have a PC, you can set your audio to stereo or wave out mix: Open your volume control, go to ‘Options’, then to ‘Properties’, and make sure that ‘Wave Out’ or ‘Stereo Mix’ is checked.

What is the difference between Premium Ustream™ membership and Pro?
If you are a Usteam™ Premium member, you are allowed to view online streams and browse the sites without seeing any banner ads. However, if you are a broadcaster, your viewers who do not have a Ustream™ Premium Membership will still see the ads. A Pro Broadcasting membership does the opposite. Simply put, it allows you to broadcast without ads and is priced according to the number of viewers and to how long they are watching your stream. This is called “Viewer hours”. Say you are broadcasting for one hour. If you have 10 viewers watching your stream from beginning until the end, then you have ranked up 10 viewer hours. Producer Pro is a desktop application which allows you to broadcast on Ustream™ and is not connected to seeing banner ads on your stream. The only way to get rid of the ads is to upgrade to Pro Broadcasting.

Ustream™ problems: my broadcast keeps disconnecting, what can I do to fix this issue?
One of the main reasons for disconnecting issues might be your internet connection. Outages, a slow connection or an overload of internet traffic can all create broadcasting problems on Ustream™. Make sure your broadcast rate matches your connection. On mobile devices you may want to lower your bitrate to 200kbps to make sure viewers are able to keep up.
