Instruction for converting AVI to XVID

Start Audials.

Switch to the “Converter” view located in the “Universal converter” section.

Click the “Files” button and choose the “Add files” option from the drop down menu.

Select the files you want to convert. They will now be added to the list in the “Converter” view. As an alternative, you can always drag and drop files to the view.

Choose the profile with the desired file format from “Convert”. The default setting is “Universal, videos for Windows Mediaplayer”, which is well suited for PCs. Other predefined profiles are also available, for example for iPod, iPhone or Xbox.

For fine adjustments or selecting a profile that is not pre-configured, simply click the button with the two arrows pointing upwards. You will then see a menu containing several output formats and a a large selection of available target devices (like Apple, Android Phones, BlackBerry, Gaming Software etc.) you can make your selection from.

Once the output format is configured, click the “Start” button. The progress will be displayed in the “Converter” view, next to the files.

The converted files will show up in the Audials player on the right side of your screen after the conversion is complete.

You can now play the files with Audials or drag and drop them into another application or Windows Explorer to export them.

About AVI

AVI stands for Audio Video Interleaved and was developed by Microsoft. An AVI file can use different codecs and formats so there is no set format for an AVI file unlike for example standard VCD video which sets a standard for resolution, bitrates, and codecs used. Most commonly used video codecs that use AVI structure are M-JPEG and DivX.

About XVID

XVID is an ISO MPEG4 compliant video codec. It's not a product but an open source project which is developed and maintained by people around the world. XVID, like many other MPEG4 formats, can be played with certain MPEG4 compatible, stand-alone DVD/DIVX/XVID players.
