Madonna celebrated her 58th birthday in August. The singer, songwriter, dancer, actress and businesswoman has constantly reinvented herself throughout her career. Nowadays, she is frequently called the "Queen of Pop" and seen as an inspiration and idol by many other artists.

With over 300 million records sold worldwide and an entry in the Guinness Book of Records as "singer with most music albums sold", Madonna became even a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008. With songs like "Papa Don’t Preach", "Like a Prayer", "Vogue", "Secret" or "Ray of Light" she wrote music history.

However, the global career started small. Born in 1958 in Bay City, Michigan, as the third of six children, she had to cope with the death of her mother at the age of five. This experience, however, gave her the strength to express herself and to sometimes disregard the rules. Madonna had a strict Catholic upbringing that she processed later in her works, which often led to controversies. However, the rebellious side was balanced with a drive for perfectionism and high achievement. At school she was very good and graduated from high school a year earlier than her peers.

Finally, she went to New York to pursue her dance career. After a number of part-time jobs, she discovered on a trip to Paris her love for singing and acting. Back in New York, she was part of several bands. In 1981, she decided to go solo. The hit "Everybody" went on number 1 in the 1982 Dance Charts. Due to the success of this song, Madonna was able to convince the producers to record a whole album. Over the years, many successful hits and films were thus released. Even prices such as the Golden Globe and the Academy Award were awarded to Madonna.

In 1996, she gave birth to daughter Lourdes, son Rocco followed in 2000. In 2005 she adopted a boy from Malawi, in 2006 Mercy James from the same African country. Currently, Madonna is rather in the headlines because of the custody battle over son Rocco with her ex-husband Guy Ritchie.

Her latest album Rebel Heart was released one year ago. In 2014 she began to write it, but some songs already appeared online before the release. The person responsible for the publication was later arrested. In order to counterattack the theft, Madonna published six songs online herself. The album came out officially in March 2015. It is stylistically more diverse than previous albums in terms of the musical production: a lyrical turn away from sexual provocation towards quieter reflection.
