Radio Margaritaville
Among the Top 10 Internet radio stations, Radio Margaritaville is definitely part of the list. It is owned by the American songwriter, musician, actor, author and businessman Jimmy Buffett. The name Margaritaville refers to a song Buffett released in 1977, but has also been used in other compilation albums and for commercial products. The radio station broadcasts music and live webcasts. It first went on air in 1998 and plays Beach Music, Tropical Rock and Reggae.
Classic FM
As the name already suggests, Classic FM devoted its program to classical music under the slogan “The World’s Greatest Music”. Alongside famous composers such as Beethoven, Vivaldi or Strauss, Classic FM also broadcasts modern classic film music or videogame music. The station is owned by Global Radio, which is the largest radio station ownership group in the UK. A highlight is each year the so-called “Hall of Fame”. It consists of counting down 300 of the most-popular pieces that have previously been voted by listeners and ends with the number one played on the evening of Easter Monday.

Formerly known as Europe No. 1, the privately owned French radio network has been created in Germany in 1955, to circumvent a ban on commercial broadcasting in France. The transmissions were initially not legally legitimated. It therefore started as and kept being during the two first years a pirate radio station. That means, unregulated transmissions have been broadcast. Later, part of the broadcasting corporation was bought by the French Government. The priorities of the radio station are to inform the audience about news and culture through eyewitness accounts rather than an announcer. Furthermore, shows are broadcast that aim at establishing bonds with listeners as for instance contests, popular music, informal talk, street-level politics and plays.
