Interpretation of Eastside

The song ”Eastside” tells us about a man and a woman who remember how they have fallen in love with each other in their teens and how they secretly met. When they were seventeen years old, they have dreamed to have a family and to live in prosperity. The young woman has decided to live with her lover although her father has been against their relationship. After a few years, the lovers notice that they have to take more responsibility and that life is not as easy as they have imagined. The problems of the present force to think of their former life.

The author of the song tells about how a teenager has to accept more and more responsibility when becoming a grown-up. The young people have to learn that adults can make negative experiences.

But it does not necessarily mean that they draw a lesson from them. There is no indication that the two lovers want to solve their problems on their own because the last verses only repeat their already mentioned recollections.
