Birthday
Axl Rose: February 6th
The front man of the rock band Guns N 'Roses was in 2016 also substitute singer with the hard rock band AC/DC. His name was initially William Bruce Rose Jr. He changed it to W. Axl Rose after he found out with 17 years that the man who he thought to be his father was actually his stepfather. W. stands for William (the first name of his father), Axl was at this time the name of his band. He never met his father because he was murdered in 1984. Together with the school friend Izzy Stradlin, who wanted to become a musician, Axl went to Los Angeles after the end of his school years.
Beginnings as Musician to Great Successes
With Izzy and three other musicians, the band Guns N 'Roses was founded in 1985. After some changes in the band composition, such as the addition of Slash, Guns N 'Roses released the album "Appetite for Destruction". It became one of the best-selling rock albums. On the 1992 album "Use Your Illusion" is the most famous song of the band: November Rain. In the nine minutes long ballad a love declaration is performed. The music video depicts a wedding ceremony of Axl Rose with his then girlfriend Stephanie Seymour. The festivities are however surprised by a sudden rainstorm, where everyone tries to escape quickly and a person even jumps into the wedding cake. After a change of scenery, the same church can be seen, but fewer guests and Axl mourning the dead of Stephanie Seymour. A rough guitar siren accompanies the muted mood to the end. With a budget of 1.5 million dollars, it is one of the 20 most expensive music videos of all time.
The End of Guns N 'Roses and New Projects
Until 1997, Izzy Stradlin, Steven Adler, Slash and Duff McKagan left the band. Axl Rose remained the only founding member. At the end of the 1990s, he barely appeared in public. He worked until the release in November 2008 on his comeback album Chinese Democracy. He denied the inclusion in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in a 2012 letter.
Singer at AC/DC
In the year 2016 he made headlines as substitute singer of the Australian band AC/DC for 10 concerts. The lead singer of AC/DC Brian Johnson could no longer perform live due to an imminent loss of his hearing.
