OK. OK. I finally got around to putting together a new podcast. This one is about 90 minutes long. I forgot how much fun it is to do a little announcing between the tunes. So -- who knows? -- maybe I'll do some more in the near future.
In the meantime, enjoy the podcast, enjoy my 24/7 stream (TheLex.us), and feel free to drop me a note with comments, suggestions, and requests.
Enjoy!

February 2011 Archived Shows
Even though I've been streaming my oldies show 24/7 for nearly a year now (at www.TheLex.us), I know there are a few folks out there still listening to the hour long shows I produced previously on the podcast webpage. In hopes of keeping these listeners happy, I am going to again try to put two or three 90 minute recordings of the stream feed on the podcast page each month.
For those of you that listen to both the stream and the podcasts, you can now access the podcast webpage directly from www.podcast.TheLex.us.
Drop me a note with comments and requests at [email protected].

TheLex -- Reloaded
After a two week hiatus, the streaming version of TheLex -- my continuously running rock & roll internet station -- is back up. Check it out at TheLex -- Reloaded. And for those times when you are away from the internet, take along three hours of hits by downloading a sampling recorded directly off the internet station. If you have some songs you don't think are on my playlist, drop me a line with some suggestions at [email protected].
Until next time...

A Sample of an Automated Lex
Hey, folks. I know its been quite a while since I published a new show. I guess I got a little distracted with life -- or something. Anyway, I recently started playing around with creating a full time, streaming oldies service. I've assembled an initial collection of over 2,100 of my favorite tunes -- 50s and 60s oldies, classic rock, ballads, and a fewer newer songs. I have a show running 24/7 on my desktop, but, I'm still working out the kinks in the automation and audio chains, and I haven't figured out exactly how to publish the stream. While I'm working on those issues, I figured I'd publish a 3 hour sample of what the new, automated Lex will sound like. I'll try to post new segments every couple of weeks until I get the stream up and running. Enjoy!

Rolling Stone Magazine's Top 100 Songs -- Part 1
In 2004, Rolling Stone Magazine poled a select group of 172 musicians, critics and industry figures to compile the 500 greatest songs of all time. Not all of these songs were hit singles, and a high percentage were released in the 50s, 60s and 70s. I have collected the top 100 songs from this list, and in this program, songs 100-76 are played. The remaining 75 songs will be published in three upcoming programs. Enjoy!

Back to School Hits
Labor Day: The traditional end of summer; and the start of school. Those first few days and weeks of schools were always fun; old friends, new friends, football games; and, lots of great music. I worked my way through the 60s and came up with some great "Back to School" musical memories. Enjoy!

Mad Men Music
Starched shirts, skinny ties and lapels, and a stiff glass of mid-morning scotch! That's the profile of Don Draper -- mad man extraordinaire. Here's some music reminiscent of the times in which the characters from TV's best show -- "Mad Men" -- thrived. Light up a lucky and have a ball, gang!

The Summer of Rock
Did you miss me?! We cruised the Mediterranean during much of June. Great time and great weather. But, it was sure nice getting home. Roaming around out in the sun reminded me of tons of summertime hits, and I just had to compile a bunch of my favorites once I finally got back home. Here's the result. See if this show doesn't remind you of how great it was to have a summer vacation from school!BTW: I'm really sorry about the glitch in the last show. I was shocked to see only a minute thirty was posted on the server. The problem has been corrected, so, if you haven't checked out the Top 50 Hits of the '50s yet, get on it!

Top 50 Hits of the '50s -- Vol. 1
I've had the good fortune to add several "new" oldies to my record collection recently. Many of these songs are from the dawn of rock, and I thought this might be a good time to create my own, personal, Top 50 Hits of the '50s. These selections have some grounding in reality, but they were made by me, for me. No whining! Here's Volume 1: Songs 50 thru 26.

The British Invasion
One hundred and fifty years after the War of 1812 ended, the British again invaded the USA. This time it was an army of musicians, and they captured the country's rock and roll heart. I know America invented Rock 'n Roll, along with Soul, Doo Wop, Rock-a-billy and Beach Music. But the folks from England had a great sound. Take a listen. I know you'll remember most of 'em.

Hits of 1965
Even though I still think '66 had the best music of the decade, 1965 was rockin'! I tried pulling together 20 tunes from that year, but I couldn't stop until I had assembled 31 songs; and I wouldn't have stopped there except for server limits. Enjoy this one, gang.

Late 60s Hits
I was in college during the late 60s and enjoyed the introduction of, what was called at the time as, "psychedelic" music into main stream rock 'n roll. But, just because a band was "heavy" didn't mean it wouldn't be a one hit wonder. Iron Butterfly's In-A-Godda-Da-Vida was the first album ever to hit Platinum status. But two years later, the band was on a downward spiral and played a few songs at my fraternity party at the Holiday Inn at which the band was staying. The tunes themselves were terrific; and lots of popular songs were not Heavy. Here's a collection of some of my favorites from that era. Enjoy!

Mid 70s Hits
I graduated from college in '72 and finally made it to California in 1974. It sure wasn't quite the way I had imagined it: The water was cold, as were the summers -- altho I did manage to go surfing once in December. That was sweet. But the music -- Fantastic. Here's a collection of mid 70s tunes I created last week that I figured you folks would like. Enjoy!
