Kaleo - Way Down We Go

Father tell me, we get what we deserve
Oh we get what we deserve

And way down we go go go go go
Oh way down we go go go go go
Say way down we go
Way down we go

You let your feet run wild
Time has come as we all oh, go down
Yeah but for the fall oh, my
Do you dare to look him right in the eyes?

'Cause they will run you down, down til the dark
Yes and they will run you down, down til you fall
And they will run you down, down til you go
Yeah so you can't crawl no more

And way down we go go go go go
Way down we go
Say way down we go
'Cause they will run you down, down til you fall
Way down we go

Uhh uhh uhh uhh uhh uhh uhh
Uhh uhh uhh uhh uhh uhh uhh
Uhh uhh uhh uhh uhh uhh uhh
Uh uhhhh uh
Uhh uhh uhh uhh uhh uhh uhh
Uhh uhh uhh uhh uhh uhh uhh
Uhh uhh uhh uhh uhh uhh uhh

Uh uhhhh
Oh bab-bab-yeah
Wow baby-a-aha
Baby
Bab, down we go
Yeah
And way down we go-o-o-o-o
Way down we go
Say way down we go
Way down we go

Interpretation of Way Down We Go

First of all to the extraordinary band name: Kaleo is Hawaiian and means "sound". The song Way Down We Go convinces with good, but dusky, sounds. The "descent" can refer to a life after death, as the song says, "Time has come as we all go down". Synonymous with a descent into hell, the experience awakens fear and exhaustion. For this, the line fits: "Do you dare to look him right in the eyes?". But the question of justice is also posed by saying, "Father tell me, we get what we deserve".

An alternative interpretation refers to an allegory, in which a person is treated in an unfair way and thereby receives the feeling of falling deeper and deeper. The pressure from the outside continues relentlessly, until the point he faces a thing or a man who makes him afraid.
