Since mid-November, the first single Walk on Water from Eminem upcoming ninth studio album "Revival" has been relesed. The sonorous voice of Beyoncé complements the rapper's rhymes. Unlike previous, more aggressive songs Walk on Water is rather calm and thoughtful. Also, the theme of the song is rather unusual and breaks with Eminem's songs from the past. He says the song is about not being Superman. It's about the high expectations that fans and listeners of his music place on Eminem. The heavy burden on him and the fear to disappoint is after numerous successes all the greater.
In the past he has more often surpassed the expectations placed on him. He wants to continue to achieve that. However, this increases the pressure on him enormously and can quickly turn into the opposite. He tries figuratively to reach the next level, but often runs into the void or cannot stay at that level. He feels the ice crack under his feet and get thinner, threatens to break and drop him into the cold water. He can not walk on water, just when it freezes. Despite self-portrayal as a rap god in past songs, he is now rowing back and presenting himself as a human being like any other, who has to work hard and cannot let miracles happen.
