Birthday

Alice Cooper: February 4, 1948

The rock musician Vincent Damon Furnier was from 1968 to 1974 part of the band Alice Cooper, whose name he took over as a solo artist after the dissolution of the band. At the signature stage shows featuring laser effects, costumes, make-up and props, Cooper was at the center of horror shows, staging tortures and executions. The calculated provocation went on and the tours were regularly sold out. The song I'm Eighteen from the 1971 album Love It to Death was a first great success. With School's Out followed the final breakthrough. The track Billion Dollar Babies was successful as a follow-up album, including the single No More Mr. Nice Guy, and made the Alice Cooper Group one of the most important rock groups of their time.
Starting in 1974 Alice Cooper wanted to make concept albums and highly visual stage shows with new musicians. The album Welcome to My Nightmare with the ballad Only Women Bleed and subsequent tour was a sign of the success of this decision. Due to an alcohol addiction it has been quiet for many years around the singer and the albums released during this time remain unsuccessful. In the summer of 1989, Alice Cooper finally has a success with Trash and the single hit Poison. In 2017, the singer published the album Paranormal. On this album are songs with Larry Mullen from U2, Roger Glover from Deep Purple or Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top.

Farewell

Eva Cassidy: February 2, 1963 - November 2, 1996

The songs of the American singer and guitarist were only very successful after her death. At just 33, Eva Cassidy died of cancer and shortly after the release of her first solo album.
Eva Cassidy did not want to be committed to a musical style and refused to interpret too commercial songs. This made it difficult to establish the singer in the music business. After a failed contract, the Eva Cassidy band decided to produce their first album with their own funds. After Eva's death in 1998, the manager of a record company released the CD Songbird of the hitherto almost unknown singer. The album spread slowly until, in 2000, a British producer played the songs Fields of Gold and Over the Rainbow on BBC Radio 2 and subsequently sold more than 100,000 CDs within two months. Songbird followed and reached in 2001 the number one in the charts. The success of the album also spread to other countries, such as Germany and the United States.

Falco: February 19, 1957 - February 6, 198

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the death of the exceptional artist. The Austrian musician reached with Rock Me Amadeus so far the only number-one-placement of a German-language song in the US Billboard charts.
The pronounced musical talent showed Johann "Hans" Hoelzel even in childhood. He learned songs from the radio quickly by heart and at a recital at the Vienna Music Academy he was certified at the age of five years, an absolute hearing. At a Falco show with his band a record entrepreneur became aware of him and made with Falco a contract for three solo albums. In 1982, Falco's first solo album was released with the hit Der Kommissar, the world's first commercially successful rap song by a white man. The second album Junge Roemer was regarded as Falco's most successful record, but the sales remained behind those of the first album. The international breakthrough came with the third album Falco 3, on which Rock Me Amadeus can be found.
