André Rieu is a Dutch conductor and violinist born in Maastricht who not only interpreted classical music, but also pop, for example. Until 1977, he studied violin and later, he founded an own production company and two orchestras. He performed as a violinist with the Limburg Symphony Orchestra until the end of the 1980s additionally to his work with the orchestra.
His first CD “Strauss & Co” was released in 1994. That is how his success story began that continued thanks to further albums and performances. Rieu conducts in the style of Johann Strauss, that means that he uses his violin and not the conductor’s baton.

Sting: October 2, 1951
Sting was born Gordon Sumner in Newcastle upon Tyne in England. After he was given a guitar, he became a passionate musician.
The singer and songwriter founded the band The Police with other two members. Their first song “Roxane”, however, did not arise interest. When The Police started performing in various clubs in the US, they gained the attention they had longed for and released “Roxane” a second time. The album “Outlandos d’Amour” even was a hit in the British and American charts and “Regatta de Blanc” earned them a Grammy Award. The most known song The Police ever released was “Every Breath You Take”.
The Police disbanded in 1984 and Sting created his own albums like “Dream of the Blue Turtles” and songs like “Englishman in New York” became chart hits.

Christopher John Davison, also known as Chris de Burgh, is a musician with Irish background born in Argentina. He early started playing the guitar and while studying English and Romance languages at the Trinity College, he made music and performed.
The song “Flying” was his first success and it topped the charts in Brazil. De Burgh also became well-known in Europe, but is worth mentioning that only two of his songs got into the charts of United Kingdom and the USA. His music was rather popular in countries like Norway and Brazil. An especially renowned song by de Burgh is “Lady in Red”.

Jessye Norman: September 15, 1945 - September 30, 2019
At the beginning of October, it became known that the American opera singer Jessye Norman had died. The famous singer should be mentioned here although a month has already passed.
Jessye Norman participated in a singing contest und that gave her the opportunity to study at the Howard University in Washington, D. C., although she was not the winner. She performed in Germany and became well-known there because she won the International Music Competition of the German Broadcasting Corporation in Munich.
In 1972 she performed as Aida in Verdi’s opera in La Scala in Milano and after a gap of five years in “Ariadne auf Naxos” in 1980 (Hamburger Staatsoper). As an addition to her performances in many opera theaters, she had a passion for jazz and spirituals, too.
